One-dimensional model of temperature distribution in liquid layers of a heat accumulator

FULL TEXT:

Abstract

Relevance: the use of thermal energy storage devices based on renewable energy sources in buildings serves to partially or fully cover energy demand, achieve energy efficiency, reduce the overload on traditional energy networks and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the environment. Among thermal energy storage devices, hot water storage systems are the most widely used devices, and the charging time of the heat accumulator (hot water storage tank), temperature changes in thermal layers and half-cycle values are some of the main parameters in assessing efficiency. The importance of mathematical modeling in assessing the energy efficiency of hot water storage tanks is very great.

Aim: to study and analyze the effect of the incoming liquid mass flow on the charging time, temperature distribution in the liquid layers, and the half-cycle value indicator using a one-dimensional model of a cylindrical hot water storage tank.

Methods: one-dimensional modeling of a hot water storage tank.

Results: For the charging process in the hot water storage tank, the charging times were 10.5, 16.33 and 21 minutes at the values of the incoming liquid mass flow rate = , =  and = , respectively. The half-cycle figure of merit, ) for the hot water storage tank were 76.03%, 92.58% and 94.03%, respectively. It was found that the energy efficiency of the hot water storage tank was high at the mass flow rate.
