Improving the sustainability of energy consumption of pumping units

Abstract

Relevance: At present, one of the main and important issues that must be addressed when designing structures and pumping units for machine water lifting systems is ensuring the sustainability of operation with minimal energy consumption of the main structures and equipment of pumping stations. Efficient use of energy resources and sustainable conservation are becoming increasingly important. Overcoming future energy shortages and identifying energy savings potential depend significantly on the correct resolution of this issue.


Aim: find the necessary solutions to improve the efficiency of pumping units.


Methods: During the study, modern theories and methods for modeling dynamic processes in a water-lifting machine system were used to analyze energy consumption stability. Furthermore, corresponding algorithms were developed to effectively solve frequency control problems. These methods utilize coordinated automation and AI control systems. To determine the maximum efficiency of a variable-speed pump, a variable-speed operation method is used, which changes its flow rate and pressure.


Results: Research shows that 30% to 50% of the energy consumed by pumping units can be saved by upgrading the main components of the pumping station or making changes to the control system. Recommendations are given, taking into account the flow profile over time, for optimizing energy consumption for a certain period of operation of pumping units, which are determined by the efficiency value of the pump and motor under their nominal operating conditions, as well as the range of required flow at a certain point in time.
